Nzingha Award

 

The Indianapolis Chapter of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women presented the first annual Nzingha Award to Amelia Bacon in 1991.  The award has been presented each succeeding year since then.  The following members have been awarded this prestigious recognition.

These women exemplify the kind of women that make a difference to our organization.  They have given unselfishly of their time, talents, energy, and resources.  They have led, guided, and served in making the Indianapolis Chapter noteworthy throughout the local community and the nation.  During the course of their membership, they have served in numerous offices of responsibility.  Their visions have carried this organization forward in making this chapter one of the most viable and strongest chapters of the national organization.

The Nzingha Award is a salute to our own.

The Personal and Professional Development Committee is charged with conducting the balloting in the selection of the recipient for this year's award, which will be presented at the Annual Meeting.  The following criteria is considered in the selection of the award recipient:

 

  • She must be a current or past member of the Indianapolis Chapter.
  • She must have demonstrated long-term commitment as a member and/or officer above and beyond the call of duty.
  • She must have served in several principal roles within the organization and have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities.
  • She must have demonstrated commitment by building partnerships through creative alliances, which have contributed significant benefit to the Coalition.
