2005

Legislative Day(s) was held on Capital Hill in Washington, D.C. on April 18 and 19, 2005. NC100BW met to discuss pertinent bills in the areas of health, education and economic development. Over 100 women from chapters all over the county gathered in Washington DC to support this event. The delegation from Indianapolis included members: Colleen Bolden Smith, Dorothy Oldham, Ruby Ballard Harris, Janice Lawrence-Stofer, Dee Strum, Mary Harden, Ann Gray, and Rita Venable.

Bills of Concern:

Responsible Education About Life Bill

NC100BW urges legislators to support this bill because it supports comprehensive and responsible sexuality education programs for the prevention of teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases.

Personal Responsibility, Work, and Family Promotion Bill

NC100BW urges legislators to include amendments to welfare reform that focus on job training and education programs to insure that former welfare recipients will be self-sufficient.

Social Security Reform Bill

NC100BW is against the privatization of Social Security because of the disproportionate effect it would have on African Americans.
