The NCBW is organized into five major program areas of interest: Arts and Culture; Community Affairs; Economic Development; Education; and Personal  and Professional Development.

  • Arts and Culture: Our mission is to identify and examine areas of concern with the realm of arts and culture within the Black community and to develop an action plan in an effort to respond to those areas requiring future funding and exposure. The committee focuses on identifying, promoting and educating in the arts and culture arenas.

  • Community Affairs: Our mission is to assist in developing organizational strategies that will enable Black women, individually and collectively, to impact the political system and assure that their interest and thereby those of our community are considered when decisions are made.

  • Economic Development: Our Mission is to become knowledgeable about the magnitude of the Black woman’s role in the economy, recognizing that her financial status is an indicator of how fairly or how poorly the African-American economy is doing.

  • Education: Our mission is to establish local education networks to pool resources to address educational needs and develop strategies to influence school officials and policy makers to implement programs to improved educational opportunities for minority children; provide education information to the public via seminars, workshops, and other forums. The Education Committee is the lead committee for the Academy for Girls.

Personal and Professional Development: Our mission is to provide members and the community with experiences which address the whole person and enable us to affirm and meet our emotional, physical, spiritual, and economic needs. This has included retreats, health forums, and personal care events.

The Academy for Girls: In recognition of the need for support and empowerment of our youth, NC100BW Indianapolis Chapter, Inc., launched for Academy for Girls in October 1994. The Academy is a mentoring program for African-American high school girls. The program supplements and enhances the traditional educational and guidance systems provided in the school, home, and community. Through a series of seminars and programs, NC100BW Indy members have provided experiential and educational opportunities for the girls. Monthly programs are centered around the five program committees of the Coalition and all members are required to participate in Academy activities.
